- 8 private suppliers
- As of 17 October 2026
Key findings
- At 200 units a month, the lowest bill that a home pays is in Chhattisgarh: ₹465 (after a State scheme; ₹930 before it). The highest is in Maharashtra: ₹2,333 (its figure includes duty and the fuel charge, which many states’ figures leave out).
- In Punjab and Delhi, a 200-unit home pays nothing, because of a State free-units scheme.
- The middle (median) state bill at 200 units is ₹937 a month.
- State schemes cut the 200-unit bill most in Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab. In Bihar the scheme takes off ₹1,175 a month.
- In Mumbai, the same 200 units cost Adani Electricity ₹1,941, Tata Power Mumbai ₹1,551 (without FAC, which it does not publish) and BEST ₹1,674. On the MSEDCL tariff for the rest of Maharashtra they cost ₹2,333.
- After inflation, the 200-unit tariff fell most in Delhi and rose most in Jharkhand since our history starts.
- The oldest tariff order still in force is for Delhi: 61 months old.

A month, urban home, 2 kW (or 2 kVA), single phase. “Before schemes” leaves out State free-unit schemes. “Real change” compares the 200-unit bill in our tariff history, now and in its first year, in 2026 rupees (CPI-IW). See the history page of each state for what it includes. Duty and fuel surcharges are in only where each calculator adds them.

How we work it out
Each bill comes from the same engine as our calculators. The engine uses the tariff order in force for each State or supplier, read from the regulator’s own document. Only rates we read in the official document go into a bill. See the methodology and the editorial policy.
