Sources

Every rate comes from the tariff order or rate schedule published by the state’s electricity regulatory commission, or from the distribution company’s own notified schedule. Calculator and aggregator websites are never used as a source for a number.

Each tariff category is stored with the document title, the page or table it is on, and a link to the PDF on the regulator’s own website.

Verification labels

• Verified: read from the full official document, and cross-checked against a second table in the same order where one exists.
• Read once: read from an official document whose layout leaves some doubt. Shown, and marked, until it is confirmed.
• Not confirmed: no official source found yet. These rates are not shown and never used in a calculation.

Testing the calculators

Each state’s calculator is tested against the worked examples printed in its tariff order, official discom calculators, and real bills where they can be found. The October 2026 bill check reproduced every figure tested for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Bihar, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Goa and Maharashtra.

What the estimates leave out

Electricity duty is set by state governments outside the tariff order, and fuel surcharges change every month. Where a current figure is confirmed, the calculator includes it and says so; otherwise each bill lists what it excludes.

Corrections

If your bill does not match, or a tariff has changed, write to contactus@ebbillcalc.com. A recent bill with personal details blacked out is the most useful thing you can send.
