How to read the meter
- Find the kWh screen on the meter. Most digital meters change screens every few seconds.
- Write down the number. Do not count the digits after the decimal point unless your bill uses them.
- Take the previous reading from your last bill.
- Units = current reading minus previous reading, times the multiplying factor (MF).
Questions
How do I find the units from my meter reading?
Subtract the previous reading from the current reading. If your bill shows a multiplying factor (MF), multiply the difference by it.
My current reading is lower than the last one. Why?
The meter went past its highest number and started again from zero, or the discom replaced the meter. If the meter is new, ask the discom for the final reading of the old meter.
Which number on the meter is the kWh reading?
Most digital meters show several screens in turn. Use the screen marked kWh. Do not use kVAh, kW or the date and time screens.
Why do my units differ from the bill?
The discom reads the meter on its own date. Your readings cover different days. Use the days field to compare the same period.
