TNERC Order 5 of 2026 (26 May 2026) confirms G.O.(Ms) No.50 and approves the subsidy until 31 March 2027.
Last checked against the official texts: 15 October 2026.
Who qualifies
- Your connection is a domestic connection on tariff LT IA.
- The tariff order allows one LT IA connection for each house or flat. Extra connections in the same house go to a different tariff.
What you get
- From 10 May 2026, a home that uses 500 units or less in two months gets 200 units free.
- A home that uses more than 500 units in two months gets 100 units free, as before.
- TNPDCL applies the free units in each service connection’s bill. You do not apply.
- LT IA has no fixed charge.
If you use more than the limit
At 501 units the home loses the second 100 free units at once. The bill goes up by much more than the price of one unit.
How to apply
- You do not need to apply. TNPDCL applies the free units in the bill.
- For your bill, go to the TNPDCL website. Open the official page
TNPDCL has a page to link Aadhaar to a domestic connection. No document we read makes it a condition for the free units.
What we could not confirm
- We could not read the text of G.O.(Ms) No.50 itself. We use the TNERC orders that quote it.
- No document says how the 500-unit limit applies to a home that gets a bill every month.
Questions
Do I get 200 free units?
Yes, if your home uses 500 units or less in the two months and the connection is LT IA.
What happens at 501 units?
You get 100 free units instead of 200. The bill goes up by a large amount.
