Delhi electricity subsidy: zero bill or Rs 800 off?

The Delhi Budget Speech 2026-27 says the subsidy continues. A notification in the Delhi Gazette of 1 October 2026 adds a proof-of-Aadhaar requirement.

Who qualifies

  • Your connection is a domestic connection with BRPL, BYPL, TPDDL or NDMC.
  • You did not opt out of the subsidy.
  • You can give proof of Aadhaar when the Government opens the process.

What you get

  • Up to 200 units a month, the subsidy pays the whole current bill.
  • From 201 to 400 units, the subsidy is up to Rs 800 a month. It applies to the total bill, with PPAC, electricity tax and pension surcharge.
  • The discoms scale the limits to the days billed: 6.67 units a day for a 30-day month.

If you use more than the limit

Above 400 units in a month there is no subsidy. You pay the whole bill.

How to apply

  1. The notification asks for proof of Aadhaar on a web portal or by another method. It does not name the portal yet.
  2. Read the notification in the Delhi Gazette. Open the official page
  3. Read your discom’s subsidy rules. Open the official page

News reports say a fresh opt-in starts in November 2026. The notification does not say this. Wait for your discom to tell you the method.

Watch for scams. No official scheme asks you to pay a fee, give an OTP or open a link in a text message. Use only the official links on this page. If someone asks for money to "activate" free units, do not pay.

What we could not confirm

  • For 201 to 400 units, the official texts give only the cap of Rs 800. Our estimate takes off Rs 800 or the bill, whichever is smaller.
  • The notification names no portal and no last date.
