The Government of Bihar pays part of the price of each unit for home connections. In 2026-27 rural homes pay Rs 2.45 a unit and urban homes Rs 4.12. Type your units to see the saving.

Who qualifies

  • Your connection is a domestic connection: DS-I (rural) or DS-II (urban).

What you get

  • Rural homes (DS-I): the tariff is Rs 7.42 a unit. The State pays Rs 4.97, so you pay Rs 2.45.
  • Urban homes (DS-II): the State pays Rs 3.30, so you pay Rs 4.12.
  • The subsidy applies to units above the 125 free units. The fixed charge gets no subsidy.

If you use more than the limit

The subsidy has no upper limit. It applies to every unit above the free 125.

How to apply

  1. You do not apply. The discom bills the net rate.
  2. Read the tariff schedule for 2026-27 (pages 118–119). Open the official page
Watch for scams. No official scheme asks you to pay a fee, give an OTP or open a link in a text message. Use only the official links on this page. If someone asks for money to "activate" free units, do not pay.

What we could not confirm

  • Kutir Jyoti homes get a subsidy on the first 50 units, which are already free. We do not model the DS-III group connection.
