What is discom?

A discom is the licensed company that owns the local wires, supplies your electricity and sends your bill. Also called distribution licensee, distribution company, licensee, electricity board, utility.

Discom on your bill

The discom runs the distribution network in its area of supply. It reads meters, bills and collects payments.

Examples: TNPDCL in Tamil Nadu, MSEDCL in Maharashtra, BESCOM in Bengaluru.

The state commission sets the discom's tariff and service standards.

Complain to the discom first. If it does not resolve the matter, go to the CGRF and then the Ombudsman.
