What is non-telescopic (threshold) billing?
In non-telescopic billing, crossing a threshold moves all your units to the higher rate, not only the extra units. Also called threshold billing, all-units billing, slab switch.

Non-telescopic (threshold) billing on your bill
Some tariffs change the rate for every unit once use crosses a limit. This is non-telescopic or threshold billing.
Kerala's domestic tariff is telescopic up to 250 units a month and non-telescopic above that.
Example: if all units cost Rs 7 above 250 units, 260 units cost 260 x 7 = Rs 1,820. The jump from 250 units can be large.
Tamil Nadu's commercial LT V tariff says 'Above 100 units (for all units)'.
If you are just above a threshold, a small cut in use can lower the whole bill.
