What is fuel surcharge?

A fuel surcharge passes changes in the discom's fuel and power purchase cost to your bill between tariff orders. Also called fuel cost adjustment, power purchase cost adjustment, fuel and power purchase surcharge.

  • Plain English

Fuel surcharge on your bill

Power purchase cost changes every month. A fuel surcharge passes the change to consumers without a new tariff order.

States use different names: FAC, FPPAS, FPPCA, MVCA, FSA and others. The idea is the same.

It is shown as a separate line. It can be per unit or a percentage, and it can be negative.

The Electricity Act lets a commission change tariffs more than once a year only through a fuel surcharge formula.

Check the current figure on your discom's or regulator's notice. The fuel-surcharge page lists the figures we read.
