Government schemes in Bihar

Schemes that change what a home pays, read from the government order, the regulator’s order or the discom’s own notice. Checked 15 October 2026.

Government of Bihar tariff subsidy In the calculator, on by default

For FY 2026-27 the State Government pays Rs 4.97 of the Rs 7.42 rate for rural homes (DS-I) and Rs 3.30 for urban homes (DS-II), on every unit. The fixed charge is not subsidised.

  • Kutir Jyoti homes get Rs 5.45 off on the first 50 units only, and those units are already inside the free 125. Above 50 units they are billed as rural or urban homes. The optional DS-III group connection is not modelled.

Mukhyamantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana: 125 units free In the calculator, on by default

From July 2025 consumption, all domestic consumers (tenants too, if the connection is in their own name) get up to 125 units a month free, covering the energy charge, fixed charge and electricity duty. The 125 units scale with the days billed (125 × days ÷ 30). Above 125 units only the extra units are billed, at the subsidised rate, with electricity duty on those units, and the fixed charge for the whole period on the higher of recorded demand or 75% of sanctioned load. Arrears from before July 2025 stay payable.

  • We use a 30-day month.
  • Electricity duty on the extra units is not part of this estimate.
  • From 01-04-2026 smart-meter homes have time-of-day rates, which change the price of units above 125; not modelled.
  • No FY 2026-27 order restates the 125 units. The FAQ is still on the NBPDCL home page and BERC’s FY 2026-27 order counts the scheme in its sales forecast.

Bihar bill questions

How much is the electricity bill for 100 units in Bihar?

About ₹0.00 for 100 units in a month, using the current BERC tariff. Sanctioned load 2 kW, urban, single phase. With Government of Bihar tariff subsidy, Mukhyamantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana: 125 units free applied (on by default; see Government schemes below). Electricity duty and the monthly fuel surcharge are not included.

What will 200 or 300 units cost in Bihar?

Roughly ₹469.00 for 200 units, and ₹881.00 for 300 units. Use the calculator above for your exact units and load.

Are Bihar domestic slabs telescopic?

There is a single rate for all units, so there are no slabs to cross.

How often are Bihar electricity bills issued?

Homes are billed monthly. Enter the units for one billing period.

Which tariff order are these Bihar rates from?

BERC Tariff Order for NBPDCL & SBPDCL, FY 2026-27 (uniform state-wide tariff), dated 18 March 2026, in force from 1 April 2026. A link to the PDF is in the sources box on this page.

What does this estimate leave out?

BERC tariff before the State subsidy; the subsidy and the 125 free units are shown as their own lines. Smart-metered homes are on mandatory ToD: 80% of the rate 09-17 h, 110% 17-23 h. This estimate uses the flat rate. Electricity duty and FPPAS not included.

Where is the consumer number on my Bihar electricity bill?

The name differs by discom. NBPDCL: CA No (9 digits); SBPDCL: CA No (9 digits). The table on this page shows where each discom prints it, when its official pages say so.

Where to find your consumer number

Your bill shows a number that identifies your connection. In Bihar the discoms call it:

DiscomName on the billDigitsWhere to find itSource
NBPDCLCA No9In the Connection Details box, on the first line. The old account number is below it.NBPDCL quick bill payment page: 'What is CANumber?' sample b
SBPDCLCA No9In the Connection Details box, on the first line. The old account number is below it.SBPDCL quick bill payment page: 'What is CANumber?' sample b

From the discoms’ own websites, bill guides and sample bills, read on 17 October 2026. Where the source is a sample bill, we read only its layout: the label, the place and the number of digits. A dash means the official page we read does not say. Never share your consumer number with an unknown caller or app.
