How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

“I announce to start Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana to provide free electricity to consumers with a consumption of 100 units per month”

Some details were read from a scanned or partly readable copy of the document.

What we could not confirm

  • The Government of Rajasthan gave homes 50 free units a month in 2022-23. We found no official document with its start date or the rates that homes paid.
  • Since 2023-24, a State scheme gives free power to homes that use up to 100 units a month. No official document that we could open states what homes pay, so we show the tariff only.
  • Homes that use up to 50 units a month have a separate tariff. This page does not show it.
  • The discoms set the fixed charge group from the average monthly use of the previous year. Our bills use the units of the bill month.
  • Our bills do not include electricity duty, urban cess, the fuel surcharge or the regulatory surcharge that started on 1 October 2025.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Rajasthan since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the RERC tariff went from ₹1,205 in 2015-16 to ₹1,488 in 2026-27, +23%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff fell 24% after inflation.

Does Rajasthan give free electricity to homes?

Yes. Under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana, homes that use up to 100 units a month get free power. The 2023-24 budget speech also gives other homes a rebate of Rs 300 to Rs 750. No official table states what homes pay.

Why does the fixed charge change with my use?

RERC sets four fixed charge groups by monthly use. Since October 2025, a home up to 150 units pays Rs 150 a month. A home above 500 units pays Rs 800.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
