How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

What we could not confirm

  • If the State does not pay its subsidy for a month, the Power and Electricity Department bills a higher full-cost tariff. We show only the subsidised tariff.
  • The 2020-21 order on the JERC website is a corrected copy of June 2020. We could not find what the correction changed.
  • For 2025-26, we did not read the rate of Rs 8.20 for units above 200 again from the order. It comes from our earlier record of that order.
  • Our figures do not include electricity duty or the fuel surcharge.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Mizoram since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the MZERC tariff went from ₹705 in 2015-16 to ₹1,300 in 2026-27, +84%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff rose 13% after inflation.

Who sets the electricity tariff in Mizoram?

Until 2024-25, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (JERC) set the tariff. From the 2025-26 order, Mizoram's own regulator, MZERC, sets it.

When does the tariff change in Mizoram?

Each order takes effect on 1 April. The regulator issues it in February or March. The home tariff has not changed since April 2022.

What happens if the State does not pay its subsidy?

Since 2019-20, homes pay the subsidised tariff while the State pays its subsidy. For any month without the subsidy, the full-cost tariff applies.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
