Slab rate and average rate
- The slab rate is the price of one more unit in that slab.
- The average a unit is the whole bill divided by the units. It includes the fixed charge and the other lines, so it is usually higher than the slab rate.
- In a small bill, the fixed charge is a bigger share. So a home that uses few units pays more for each unit on average.
- When you use more units, more of them fall in the dearer slabs. So the average goes up again.
Unit rate for shops
A shop or office on the commercial tariff pays about ₹5.73 a unit at 100 units a month and ₹5.03 a unit at 300 units, with a 3 kW load.
