How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.
  • We read some orders from scanned copies. The table marks these periods.

What we could not confirm

  • The JERC order of 2022 says the tariff starts on 1 October 2022. A later JERC order says 30 September 2022. We show 30 September 2022.
  • Before September 2022, Ladakh had no separate tariff. We show the JKSERC tariff for the whole State.
  • We did not read the JKSERC order for 2014-15. We use the 2015-16 order, which states that the tariff did not rise.
  • We did not read again the orders for 2025-26 and 2026-27 for this page. We use the rates that we checked before.
  • Our figures do not include electricity duty. We have no record of its rate for Ladakh.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Ladakh since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the JERC (J&K and Ladakh) tariff went from ₹364 in 2015-16 to ₹496 in 2026-27, +36%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff fell 17% after inflation.

Who sets the electricity tariff in Ladakh?

Until September 2022, the JKSERC tariff for the whole State applied. Since 30 September 2022, JERC for J&K and Ladakh sets a tariff for LPDD.

Does the UT Government pay part of the bill?

Yes. Each JERC order includes a UT grant to LPDD. JERC uses this grant to set a lower tariff, and this tariff is the one on the bill.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
