Sun and solar output in Karnataka

Sunshine in Karnataka is 5.0 to 5.6 kWh per m² a day, by district (average 5.4). So 1 kW of panels makes about 4.1 units a day here, or 122 units a month.

The sunniest district is Chitradurga and the least sunny is Dakshina Kannada.

Solar with battery questions

What is the difference between hybrid and off-grid solar?

A hybrid system keeps your grid connection: panels cut your bill through net metering and a battery runs essential loads in a power cut. An off-grid system has no grid connection, so the panels and battery must cover your whole use, including cloudy days.

Is there a subsidy for solar with a battery?

For grid-connected systems, yes. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is worked out on the solar panel capacity, and the battery is not subsidised. Off-grid systems are not eligible.

How much roof space does it need?

MNRE says about 10 square metres of shadow-free area per kW. A 3 kW system needs about 30 m², roughly 320 sq ft.

Where do the sun hours come from?

From NASA POWER’s long-term average of daily sunshine for your district. Enter your PIN code to pick the district automatically.
