Lifeline / BPL category on your bill
Commissions set a low tariff for poor households with a small load and small use.
The limits differ by state. MP's lifeline is up to 0.1 kW and 30 units a month. HP's is up to 60 units.
Example (MP): 30 units at Rs 3.72 = Rs 111.60 in energy charge.
If you use more than the limit, many states move you to the normal domestic tariff.
Ask your discom about eligibility. You may need a BPL card or a certificate.
