How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

What we could not confirm

  • The orders list the slab rates but do not say in words that each rate applies only to the units in its slab. We assume it does.
  • Since 2022, UERC sets the fixed charge per kW in load bands. We apply the rate of the 1 to 4 kW band to the whole 2 kW load. The orders do not say this in words.
  • UERC added an extra energy charge for some months: Rs 0.20 a unit from July 2017 to March 2018. It added Rs 0.39 a unit from October 2019 to March 2020. Our bills do not include these charges.
  • The Government of Uttarakhand pays 50% of the bill for small homes. These homes have a load up to 1 kW and use up to 100 units a month. This does not apply to a 2 kW home. We found no start date.
  • Our bills do not include electricity duty, the monthly fuel charge or the power purchase surcharge of 2022.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Uttarakhand since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the UERC tariff went from ₹580 in 2015-16 to ₹1,060 in 2026-27, +83%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff rose 12% after inflation.

When does UERC change the tariff?

UERC issues a tariff order each year, and the new tariff starts on 1 April. In 2026, UERC kept the tariff unchanged.

How does UERC set the fixed charge?

Until March 2022, the fixed charge depended on the month's units. Since April 2022, it depends on the load. Since 2024, a home with a load from 1 to 4 kW pays Rs 85 per kW a month.

Does the Government of Uttarakhand help small homes?

Yes. It pays 50% of the bill, with duty, for homes with a load up to 1 kW that use up to 100 units a month.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
