How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

Tariff order

TGERC retail tariff order FY 2026-27: no change in domestic rates; State subsidy of Rs 14,000 crore committed

TGERC · Order on Revised ARR and Retail Supply Tariffs for FY 2026-27, dated 30-03-2026 (TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL) · order dated 30 March 2026

The Commission kept the reference tariff schedule, so domestic rates and fixed charges are the same as in FY 2025-26. The Government's Rs 14,000 crore subsidy (Rs 1,964.40 crore of the need is for LT-I domestic) keeps the full-cost tariff off bills; the balance Rs 1,105.91 crore is a regulatory asset. The Commission also built Rs 1,083.59 crore a year of the old unpaid subsidy balance into the FY 2026-27 ARR. The full-cost tariff (domestic units 1-50 at Rs 7.21 in TGSPDCL) applies only if the State fails to pay.

What we could not confirm

  • Under Gruha Jyothi, eligible homes that use up to 200 units a month get a zero bill from March 2024. Not every home can join, so we show the tariff only.
  • TSERC extended the 2016-17 tariff three times, from 2019 to 2021. We did not open these orders. We know of them from the 2022-23 order.
  • One order puts a home at exactly 100 or 200 units in the higher group. Its tariff table puts that home in the lower group. We use the table.
  • Our bills do not include electricity duty or the fuel surcharge adjustment.
