How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

What we could not confirm

  • The OERC orders do not give the electricity duty rate. Our figures do not include it.
  • Our standard bill does not include meter rent or the prompt-payment rebate of 10 paise a unit.
  • We found no State Government subsidy for ordinary homes in the OERC orders. So we show no separate figure for what a home pays.
  • If the meter reading date is on or before 15 April, the bill uses the rates of the year before. Our chart shows the new rates from 1 April.
