What the Meghalaya rules say
Charging at home. The tariff order does not say how the discom bills home charging. The national rule applies. It says: “Domestic electricity rates will apply to charging EVs at home.” (Ministry of Power, Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024 (17-09-2024), clause 15).
A separate EV connection. We did not find a rule in the order that gives a home its own EV connection. The EV rate in the order is for charging stations.
How we work it out
- We price your bill twice: with your present units, and with the EV units added. The difference is the cost of the EV.
- EV units = km × energy use per km, plus the charging loss.
- The energy use comes from the maker’s battery size and certified range (IDC for scooters, MIDC or ARAI for cars). These ranges are tests, so real use is higher.
- The 10% charging loss is our assumption. You can change it.
- Petrol cost = km ÷ mileage × price. The mileage is the maker’s claimed figure.
