What the Maharashtra rules say
Charging at home. The tariff order says that charging your own EV at home uses the tariff of your home. The text: “In case the consumer uses the electricity supply for charging his own electric vehicle at their premises, the tariff applicable shall be as per the category of such premises.” (MERC MYT Order Case 217 of 2024, Case 217 of 2024, Tariff Schedule, LT VIII Applicability, p.751).
A separate EV connection. MSEDCL lets you take a separate LT VIII connection to charge your own EV. It bills in kVAh. Rates: Rs 7.73 energy + Rs 1.52 wheeling a kVAh; 09–17 h energy 15% off (Apr–Sep) or 25% off (Oct–Mar); 17–24 h energy +20%. (MERC MYT Order Case 217 of 2024, Case 217 of 2024, LT VIII Applicability, p.751.)
Time of day. For homes billed on time of day. The order does not say which meters get it. 09–17 h Rs 0.85 a unit off. (MERC MYT Order Case 217 of 2024.) We apply it to the EV units only.
How we work it out
- We price your bill twice: with your present units, and with the EV units added. The difference is the cost of the EV.
- EV units = km × energy use per km, plus the charging loss.
- The energy use comes from the maker’s battery size and certified range (IDC for scooters, MIDC or ARAI for cars). These ranges are tests, so real use is higher.
- The 10% charging loss is our assumption. You can change it.
- Petrol cost = km ÷ mileage × price. The mileage is the maker’s claimed figure.
