How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.
  • We read some orders from scanned copies. The table marks these periods.

What we could not confirm

  • The JERC order for 2023-24 is a scanned copy. We read its start date and three rates from the scan. We took the rate for units 101 to 200 from the 2024-25 order.
  • The orders do not state the telescopic method for each slab. We charge each slab at its own rate, as the orders from 2020-21 describe.
  • We think that the 2026-27 rates start on 1 April 2026. The 2025 order gives a column for each year.
  • Our figures do not include electricity duty. We found no fuel charge for Lakshadweep.
