What the Gujarat rules say
Charging at home. The tariff order says that charging your own EV at home uses the tariff of your home. The text: “Other consumers can use their regular electricity supply for charging electric vehicle under same regular category i.e. RGP, RGP (RURAL), GLP, LTMD, etc. as the case may be.” (GERC Tariff Schedule (state discoms) w.e.f. 01-04-2026, Part I, Section 10 Rate: LT EV Charging Stations, p.13).
A separate EV connection. The LT-EV rate is for any connection used only for EV charging, so a home can take one. Rates: Rs 4.10 a unit (Rs 3.98 prepaid); Rs 25 a month; 11–17 h 60 paise off with a smart meter. (GERC Tariff Schedule (state discoms) w.e.f. 01-04-2026, Section 10, p.13.)
Time of day. For homes with a smart meter. 11–17 h 60 paise a unit off. (GERC Tariff Schedule (state discoms) w.e.f. 01-04-2026.) We apply it to the EV units only.
How we work it out
- We price your bill twice: with your present units, and with the EV units added. The difference is the cost of the EV.
- EV units = km × energy use per km, plus the charging loss.
- The energy use comes from the maker’s battery size and certified range (IDC for scooters, MIDC or ARAI for cars). These ranges are tests, so real use is higher.
- The 10% charging loss is our assumption. You can change it.
- Petrol cost = km ÷ mileage × price. The mileage is the maker’s claimed figure.
