    • GERC has circle or zonal forums and a Company Level Forum.

    • Appeal within 30 days of the forum order.
    • If the forum misses its deadline, you can appeal within 15 days after that deadline.

What we could not confirm

  • A GERC 2005 schedule sets Rs 100 for a single-phase meter test if the meter proves correct. We read it from a scanned copy, and a 2020 amendment is unread.
  • We found no forum filing fee in the GERC regulations.
  • We did not check the helplines of MGVCL, PGVCL, UGVCL and Torrent Power, or whether 1912 works.

Questions

Yes. The GERC regulation gives you the right to approach the forum directly.

How fast does the forum act on a disconnection?

The forum must pass its order within 7 days for disconnection grievances.

Who gets double compensation?

The amount rises to 1.5 times after a representation, and to 2 times if the forum or Ombudsman upholds the claim.

Not if you pay under protest. Pay the amount claimed or your average monthly charge for the last six months, whichever is less (Electricity Act s.56(1)).
