How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

What we could not confirm

  • The State ran a half-bill scheme from March 2019. We found no official order with its terms, so we show no figure for what homes paid.
  • For the concession from December 2025, our source is State Government press notes. They give a rule, not a rate table, so we show no figure.
  • The 2016-17 order has two pages that do not agree. One says the old tariff continues, and the schedule gives new rates. We use the schedule.
  • Some orders came after their start date: August 2021, April 2022 and July 2025. We do not know how the first bills of those months used them.
  • Our figures do not include electricity duty or fuel surcharges.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Chhattisgarh since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the CSERC tariff went from ₹616 in 2015-16 to ₹930 in 2026-27, +51%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff fell 8% after inflation.

Why is there no fixed charge before August 2021?

Until July 2021, CSERC added its fixed charge to each unit rate. In 2019, Rs 3.40 a unit was Rs 2.40 fixed charge plus Rs 1.00 energy charge.

What is the half-bill concession in Chhattisgarh?

From 1 December 2025, homes that use up to 200 units a month pay half the bill. Homes that use 201 to 400 units get 50% off the first 200 units for one year. The State said in June 2026 that it continues.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
