How we work it out

  • One home: urban, single phase, 2 kW. It uses 100, 200 or 300 units a month.
  • The bill is energy charge plus fixed and customer charges, from the tariff in each order. It does not include electricity duty, tax or fuel surcharge.
  • “In today’s rupees” uses the consumer price index of MoSPI (all India, general). We use the average of the months of each financial year. For 2026-27 we use April to September.

What we could not confirm

  • From April 2015 to May 2019, the tariff had a minimum charge of Rs 30 per kVA, not a fixed charge. Our bills for these years leave it out.
  • The orders do not say if each slab rate applies only to the units in that slab. We assume it does.
  • The 2023-24 order shows the top slab as 501 to 1,000 units, with no row above 1,000. We apply its rate to all units above 500.
  • The 2025 order gives a rate for each year to 2029-30. We found no sentence that gives 1 April 2026 as the start of the 2026-27 rates.
  • The 2025 order says a fuel surcharge can apply. It gives no rate. Our figures do not include it or electricity duty.

Questions

How much has the electricity tariff gone up in Andaman & Nicobar Islands since 2015?

For 200 units a month, the JERC (Goa & UTs) tariff went from ₹600 in 2015-16 to ₹1,240 in 2026-27, +107%. Prices in general rose +63% in that time, so the tariff rose 26% after inflation.

Who sets the electricity tariff in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands?

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa and Union Territories sets it. The Electricity Department of the A&N Administration supplies the homes.

Does the Administration pay part of a home bill?

The Administration covers the revenue gap of the Electricity Department from its budget. No order states a lower rate that a home pays.

Are electricity duty and fuel surcharge in these figures?

No. The figures show energy, fixed and customer charges only. Your bill also has electricity duty or tax, and a fuel surcharge in most months.
